ISMETT’s liver and kidney transplantation programs began in 1999. Heart transplantation began in 2004 and in 2005 our pancreas and lung transplantation programs began. Today, ISMETT performs all solid organ transplants, both adult and pediatric (pediatric liver, kidney, and lung). ISMETT’s national and international reputation brings patients from across Europe and the Mediterranean region.

In addition to transplantation, our surgery program focuses on abdominal surgery in high-risk patients; cardiothoracic surgery, including heart failure surgery and our artificial heart program; and pediatric hepatobiliary surgery. The interventional radiology program is very active, with a strong specialization in liver, biliary tract, heart and great vessels. Diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedures of the gastrointestinal system, biliary tract, and pancreas procedures also are available, including endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) biopsies and pediatric interventional procedures.
