The Transplantation Research Association [Associazione Ricerca Trapianti] offers fellows a two-year scholarship to gain the skills necessary to assess IT systems and relative projects to be implemented, and to use computer and telecommunication technologies in medical and scientific activity. Fellows will primarily be responsible for designing and managing a Telemedicine and Telescience project within the framework of a Pancreatic Islet Transplantation program. The project will aim at establishing a network linking ISMETT's program to the University of Miami Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) program and implementing a dedicated Telemedicine system for the Pancreatic Islet Transplantation program and remote automated Telescience systems (e.g. collaborative telemicroscopy) in islet isolation labs. Fellows will also manage the program's IT systems and the digital scanning, automated analysis and management of micrographic materials for educational and experimental purposes.
