ISMETT devotes special attention to nursing training. The Transformational Model
is a training model adopted for the first time in Italy by ISMETT
and UPMC Italy. It aims at introducing and creating specialized
figures with the goal of effectively training staff in the various
aspects of transplant medicine and therapies.
The model envisages the creation of a Nursing Education Department whose principal
task consists in managing and organizing ad hoc training both
for new hires and nurses who wish to become coordinators, and
introducing new professional figures like Transplant
Coordinators, Research
Coordinators, Educators and Tutors. These are individual training pathways aimed at improving
the health care standards provided to patients and creating an
organizational model focusing on the nurse as the facility’s
pivotal figure.
The training model adopted at ISMETT has allowed many Sicilian nurses to spend
a period of training in Pittsburgh working side by side with
American professionals within the framework of an ad hoc training
program.
