Family
House: A Home Away From Home
Located in the center of Palermo, the Family House is just a
short walk from the train station and in the proximity of ISMETT.
Family House, the first of this kind dedicated to transplant
patients undergoing long-term treatment and to their families,
is supported by ISMETT and adopts the model currently implemented
in Pittsburgh. The Family House opens its doors to patients
and families traveling to Palermo for treatment of serious long-time
illnesses.
The
Family House has 7 rooms and 14 beds, a large living room, bathrooms
and kitchen. A "home away from home", it offers a
comfortable environment in which patients and families feel
less alone and can live in a family-like environment during
the time of recovery.
Family House was created with the generosity and support of
public and private foundations and associations such as ASTRAFE
(Association of Liver Transplant Patients), ATRAS (Sicilian
Transplant Association), Compagnia di San Paolo, UPMC and ISMETT.
The Family House is operated by volunteers. Guests are asked
to make a donation according to their means.
