Before leaving home Before arriving at ISMETT, please check this
list of important details.
Contact or call ISMETT, International Patient Services Office, at +39.091.605.6593,
one week before leaving home to confirm all medical appointments. Contact or call the ISMETT - International Patient Representative at +39.091.605.6593 to schedule the airport pickup and confirm hotel reservations in Palermo
as soon as date of arrival is known.
If the patient
needs an interpreter, has he/she requested one?
Call or visit the Italian embassy/consulate in his/her country of residence to obtain the appropriate visa to enter Italy. For assistance in obtaining required letters from ISMETT, contact the ISMETT - International
Patient Representative. The patient must bring a copy of all medical documentation pertaining to procedures, tests, surgical operations, laboratory work, and medical care that
the patient has undergone prior to his/her arrival at ISMETT. We recommend that the patient carry his/her medical records, films and medications
with him/her in case checked luggage is lost or delayed.
It is helpful for the patient to obtain
a letter of referral from the patient's primary care physician
summarizing the patient's diagnosis and course of treatment.
The patient should bring a list of all currently prescribed medications - stating the generic, or chemical name, not the brand name. UPMC's International Patient Representative Prior to the patient's arrival in Palermo, a representative of UPMC International Patient Services will be assigned as his/her contact. This person will help to address any pretreatment concerns and will serve as a liaison between the patient, ISMETT, and the community. Your ISMETT representative will be able to advise you in accomplishing the tasks of the checklist above.
