The Office of Research, Health, and Biomedical
Sciences (ORHBS) is the body accountable for monitoring all clinical
and basic research at ISMETT.
Objectives
The ORHBS acts as catalyst implementing ISMETT's
research mission and supporting research and all related activities
working to establish a suitable environment for research.
Support ISMETT's values on intellectual commitment,
integrity, and innovation while promoting research and creative
activity on a Faculty level.
Act as role model creating a “culture of
compliance with policies and procedures" and promoting
the safety of research volunteers and of the research team,
the appropriate treatment of animals used for research, the
management of research funds, and the highest standards of ethics,
integrity, and impartiality.
Develop opportunities, protocols, and infrastructures
for Faculty and ISMETT staff encouraging creative ways of expression,
carrying out quality research, and promoting an entrepreneurial
culture beneficial to Sicilians.
Work with Faculty, staff, and inventors to identify,
safeguard, and market various forms of intellectual property
allowing the ISMETT research to generate new knowledge and applications
of the existing know-how with a positive impact on the economic
development and on society in general.

at a regional, national, and international level.
Promote a culture of excellence in research,
and a compliance with regulations and internal/external policies
and procedures.
Rationale
Create and implement policies and procedures created to uphold ISMETT's research goals.
Provide support developing institutional research programs and strategies.
Ensure compliance with funding bodies’ guidelines
and institutional protocols in the process of submitting research
proposals and/or applications for research at ISMETT.
Monitor the research proposal reviewing process.
Support the Faculty identifying research opportunities and carrying out research.
Support clinical and/or basic research initiatives
offering consultancy to develop projects, budgets, experimental
design, statistical analyses, study start-up and coordination.
Monitor and manage data to ensure clinical studies
are carried out effectively, in compliance with policies and
procedures.
Support the establishing of partnerships and
collaborations with academic institutions, enterprises, and
other research institutions.
Review issues of intellectual property and transfer
of technology. Work as liaison between ISMETT and the biomedical
and biotechnology research external communities.
