The EMISPHER (Euro-Mediterranean Internet-Satellite
Platform for Health, Medical Education and Research) project,
approved by the EU within the framework of the EUMEDIS initiative,
was financed in August 2001.
This project aims at implementing a Euro-Mediterranean telemedicine
platform for health care, training and research. The following

The main goal of the project is to test a telemedicine satellite
platform model that integrates a variety of highly interactive
satellite internet applications, thus improving communication
and data exchange between health care system professionals throughout
Euro-Mediterranean countries and the health care system in the
Mediterranean Basin countries.
The project is divided in three core areas of activity:
1. Cooperation in
the field of high specialized services allocation, and promotion
of innovative and successful tools and practices
2. Medical training: Moving
towards a Virtual Euro-Mediterranean Medical University
3. Information & Communication
ISMETT participates as clinical partner with respect to
the planning aspects linked to liver diseases, solid organ transplantation,
telemedicine, teletraining, as well as outcome assessment and
circulation. ISMETT will be the clinical reference center for
teleconsult for transplantation and highly specialized therapies.
ISMETT will also organize workshops and conferences.
