ISMETT, located in Palermo, Italy, is a specialty hospital managed and operated by UPMC.

All physicians practicing at ISMETT are faculty members of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and are employed full-time by UPMC in Italy. As a fully accredited member of the UPMC network of hospitals, ISMETT expands UPMC's proven healthcare delivery model into the geographic center of the Mediterranean Basin.

ISMETT is conveniently accessible to patients from throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. A new 120,000 square-foot, 70-bed facility has been constructed to the high standards employed at UPMC hospitals in the United States. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom, a television, and is connected to the hospital's computerized electronic medical records system. There is a 14-bed comprehensive Intensive Care Unit, an 11-bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and a state-of-the-art imaging center capable of performing both diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.

ISMETT is connected via a telemedicine link to its affiliated network of UPMC hospitals in Pittsburgh, USA, including UPMC Presbyterian, one of the most well-respected treatment and research hospitals in the United States. ISMETT is also a partner in the Euro Mediterranean Internet Satellite Platform for Health, Medical Education and Research (Emispher) - a high speed, satellite-linked network of 16 major medical centers in 10 countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey.
