ISMETT contributes to the development of the Regional Health Care System through the dissemination of UPMC know-how, and serves as a point of reference on a regional and national level with its training and continuing education courses for external operators. Provided with an education department since 2009, ISMETT received the UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 Certificate of Compliance with Quality Management Systems Regulations. The Institute is also accredited as a national CME provider.

ISMETT also offers university students, fellows, physicians, and non-medical post-graduate students the opportunity to do an internship at the Institute, and designs customized training programs together with the applicants, providing them with a project supervisor. In the last two years, ISMETT has offered about 400 internships. About 80% of the students come from Sicilian universities.
