Sergio Rizzo

Dr. Sergio Rizzo, specialist in medical oncology, completed a PhD in Oncopathology at the University of Palermo in 2011. With the support of a fellowship from the Italian Association of Medical Oncology, he was a visiting physician and research fellow with Lodovico Balducci, MD, FASCO, at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, from 2011-2012.

Since 2012, he has worked at the Medical Oncology Unit of Policlinico Paolo Giaccone in Palermo, Italy, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and study of solid neoplasms, in particular in the thoracic, gastrointestinal, and hepato-bilio-pancreatic areas. In the last few years, he has been actively involved in multidisciplinary meetings with ISMETT professionals and recurrent tumor boards, which are essential for defining diagnostic and therapeutic paths of care for cancer patients.

He has been a principal investigator and co-investigator in over 30 multicenter clinical trials and GCP (Good Clinical Practice) cooperative studies. He taught oncology at the Training School in General Medicine of the Region of Sicily, was a lecturer at the Postgraduate School of Medical Oncology of the University of Palermo and at the School of Medicine of the University of Anvers (Belgium), and received national scientific certification of professor of oncology. He is the author of more than 60 publications in extenso in indexed international oncology journals with the following indicators: TOTAL NUMBER OF CITATIONS > 1890, AUTHOR H-INDEX:  25, plus 10 national and international book chapters, and numerous abstracts presented at national and international scientific congresses (ASCO, AACR, ESMO, ECCO, ICACT, AIOM, AIM).
