The Unit carries out diagnosis and treatment of benign diseases of the esophagus and gastro-esophageal junction:

• Gastroesophageal reflux and hiatal hernia
• Para-esophageal and diaphragmatic hernia
• Achalasia
• Zenker’s diverticulum and other esophageal diverticula

Patients with benign esophageal diseases can be visited and undergo all relevant instrumental exams.

Surgical procedures

• Laparoscopic fundoplication
• Laparoscopic esophageal myotomy
• Transoral treatment of Zenker’s diverticulum with minimally-invasive technique
• Resection of middle and distal esophageal diverticula
