Dr. Paola Salis has been the Director of the Nephrology Unit at ISMETT since January 2017. She graduated with a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1995 from the University of Palermo, where she specialized in Nephrology. She was visiting physician at the Renal Unit of Middlesex Hospital (University College of London). In 2004, she was a visiting physician at the Johns Hopkins Transplant Center in Baltimore, and at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
She began working at ISMETT in 2000, contributing to the creation and development of the Kidney Transplant Program, both from living and deceased donors. She actively took part in the quality improvement program as part of the JCI accreditation. Her main fields of interest are living-related kidney transplantation, ABO-incompatible transplantation, renal failure in liver, heart, and lung transplant patients, and acute renal failure in inpatients.
