ISMETT is an Institute for scientific-based care and treatment (IRCCS) in the area of end-stage organ failure treatment and research.
IRCCS ISMETT is a center of excellence in the field of organ transplantation and a leading reference point in the Mediterranean region. IRCCS ISMETT hosts major research programs aimed at providing patients with the most advanced therapies and developing innovative solutions for end-stage failure of vital organs.
An example of innovative and efficient clinical management, IRCCS ISMETT was created with an international partnership between the Region of Sicily, through ARNAS Civico Hospital of Palermo, and UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center). In June 2017, the Ri.MED Foundation, established by the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers, entered the governance of IRCCS ISMETT. The purpose of the Foundation is to promote, support, and conduct research projects and programs in the field of biotechnologies.
The collaboration with UPMC brought to Palermo the expertise and professionalism of its worldwide-renowned hospitals, research centers, and universities.
IRCCS ISMETT is the first hospital in Southern Italy to receive accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI), one of the world’s most advanced healthcare accreditation systems for assessing the quality and safety of healthcare organizations. This recognition confirms our commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement, with a focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients.
IRCCS ISMETT is part of the network of hospitals committed to addressing the specific healthcare needs of women. ISMETT has been awarded the “Bollino Rosa” recognition for the periods 2014–2015, 2016–2017, 2017–2018, and 2019–2020.
