The unit shall provide histopathological and cytopathological diagnostics on biopsy samples, operating pieces and cytological materials. It also provides intraoperative diagnostics to guide surgical choices in real time and histopathological advice for second opinions, using special techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular biology.

In transplantology, pathological anatomy is crucial for organ biopsy interpretation, diagnosis of rejection and evaluation of disease relapses, directly contributing to clinical management and prognosis.
