The European Reference Networks (ERNs) are virtual networks of healthcare providers across Europe. Their role is to facilitate consultation and diagnosis for patients with rare or complex diseases requiring highly specialized care.
The first 24 networks were established in March 2017, bringing together more than 900 highly specialized healthcare units from over 300 hospitals in 26 Member States.
The selection of centers participating in the ERNs is based on several characteristics of the applicant hospitals, including patient management and care, organizational and operational practices, research activities, expertise, information systems, and a range of criteria specific to the diseases treated.
ISMETT is a member of the European Reference Network on Transplantation in Children (incl. HSCT, heart, kidney, liver, intestinal, lung and multiorgan).
