Living-donor liver transplants

Background hero basic page

The shortage of organs available from deceased donors means many patients cannot receive a transplant within the time needed.

Living donation represents an important opportunity to expand the number of available organs and help save more lives.

Choosing to donate an organ is an act of generosity and altruism.

It is a choice to save a life while preserving one’s own health and well-being.

When you give a part of yourself, you receive something truly priceless in return.

Living-donor kidney transplantation.

Living donor kidney transplantation is possible because a single healthy kidney can perform the functions normally carried out by two kidneys.

This approach can allow patients to avoid dialysis or reduce the time spent on dialysis, enabling them to receive a transplant before their condition becomes more advanced.

It provides longer survival, improved kidney function, and a better quality of life.

Living donor liver transplant

A portion of the donor’s healthy liver is removed and used to replace the entire diseased liver of the recipient.

The liver is the only organ in the human body capable of regenerating itself. Within approximately three months, both the donor’s liver and the recipient’s liver grow back to their original size.

Both the donor and the recipient will have a healthy, functioning liver.
