IRCCS ISMETT in Palermo will recruit approximately 1,200 volunteers in Sicily as part of the Italy’s largest cardiovascular prevention program for healthy individuals aged 40 to 80.
CVRisk-IT, the largest and most ambitious national cardiovascular prevention program for healthy adults aged 40 to 80, was officially launched in Sicily. The initiative is coordinated in Sicily by IRCCS ISMETT, a center of excellence member of the Italian Network of Cardiovascular IRCCSs.
The project will transform primary cardiovascular prevention by developing new predictive models. Bringing together Italy’s leading Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalisation and Healthcare (IRCCS), CVRisk-IT will integrate clinical, biological and lifestyle data to identify cardiovascular risk with unprecedented accuracy.
Within this national network, ISMETT serves as the coordinating center for Sicily and will recruit approximately 1,200 participants.
“The launch of CVRisk-IT in Sicily marks an important milestone for our region,” said Manlio Cipriani, Head of ISMETT’s Cardiology Service and Scientific Coordinator of the project. “Through this study, we are not only offering citizens a free opportunity to undergo advanced cardiovascular assessment, but also collecting valuable data that will help us develop increasingly personalized precision medicine. Our goal is to move from a one-size-fits-all approach to prevention towards targeted strategies capable of identifying cardiovascular risk before disease develops, ultimately improving patients’ quality of life.”
The program is open to healthy adults between 40 and 80 years of age with no history of cardiovascular disease or diabetes. Participation is entirely voluntary and free of charge.
Participants will undergo:
- a comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation;
- a blood sample to analyze biomarkers associated with cardiovascular risk;
- long-term follow-up to monitor health status and evaluate the effectiveness of the preventive models.
The model is based on a network of regional “spoke” centers, ensuring accessibility and equal participation throughout the community. “Participation to the study is completely free and offers citizens an opportunity to contribute to research and to the development of new evidence-based prevention models,” said Lorenzo Menicanti, President of the Italian Network of Cardiovascular IRCCSs.
