Funded projects

Targeted research

Targeted Research , funded by the Italian Ministry of Health through competitive grant calls, is one of the principal instruments for achieving the objectives of the Italian NHS policies. It has a clear applied focus and aims to generate knowledge and evidence that can guide decision-making in the strategic areas identified by the Ministry of Health.

The focus on outcomes that can be directly translated into clinical practice and patient care delivery within the NHS (translational research) is the defining feature of Targeted Research. These projects do not fall within the realm of basic research; rather, they are biomedical and clinical research projects whose ultimate goal is to address health needs in the community placing the individual at the core of the care process.

Capital Account

Capital Investment Funding (Conto Capitale, CC) is a funding mechanism established by the Italian Ministry of Health to support the technological enhancement of Italian Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare (IRCCSs). Capital Investment projects are exclusively aimed at the acquisition of equipment and technologies whose use is linked to the IRCCS research programs, collaborative network activities among IRCCSs, or healthcare and clinical activities, provided that these are connected to institutional research activities.

The objective of this funding scheme is to promote the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies, making innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools available to advance scientific knowledge and optimize clinical protocols.

Europe

European projects are among the principal instruments available to EC institutions for implementing policies aimed at strengthening the competitiveness, innovation, and sustainable development of the EU.

For ISMETT IRCCS, European projects serve as a key tool:

  • To pursue, at a strategic level and within the European framework, its objectives and priorities.
  • To provide, at an operational level, concrete and feasible solutions to the real needs of patients, researchers, and, more broadly, the community in which we operate.

Within this framework, IRCCS ISMETT participates in European consortia involving leading public and private institutions, as well as industry partners, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation at the international level.

National Operational Program

The National Operational Program (NOP) is the instrument through which Italy contributes to the implementation of the European Union Cohesion Policy, supporting its less advantaged regions through coordinated and strategically planned interventions. These initiatives are designed to generate tangible benefits and long-term impacts at the local level, improving citizens’ quality of life, enhancing business competitiveness, and creating better employment opportunities for younger generations.

Through these programs, investments are directed toward research, innovation, infrastructure, skills development, and social inclusion, contributing to sustainable economic and social growth across the country.
