ISMETT, Dr Galante is the new head of Hepatology

Antonio Galante is the new Head of Hepatology at IRCCS ISMETT. Originally from Reggio Calabria, Dr. Galante graduated from the University of Messina in 2008 and specialized in Internal Medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg–Eppendorf (UKE) in 2016.
Over the past four years, Dr. Galante has served as senior consultant in Hepatology at the Gastroenterology Service at the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale in Lugano, Switzerland, where he was also a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the Università della Svizzera Italiana. Previously, he worked at the Toronto General Hospital in Canada, where he completed a fellowship in transplant hepatology.
“I am enthusiastic about this new role at ISMETT,” said Dr. Galante. “This represents a return to Italy, and in particular to Southern Italy, as well as my first senior leadership position in a prestigious hospital such as ISMETT. I hope to contribute from the outset and to put to good use the experience I gained in other European and international centers. I chose ISMETT because it offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team and to combine clinical care with research in fields that are of great interest to me, such as liver transplantation.”

Author of numerous scientific publications he is a member of several scientific societies, including EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver), AASLD (American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases), AISF (Italian Association for the Study of the Liver), and ILTS (International Liver Transplantation Society). His main clinical and research interests lie in transplant hepatology and, more recently, in the application of artificial intelligence systems in hepatology. He is also a member of the ILTS Vanguard Committee, which actively promotes, on a global level, opportunities for growth and collaboration among young physicians and researchers in the field of liver transplantation.
