U.S. CONSUL GENERAL VISITS ISMETT IN PALERMO

Today the U.S. Consul General in Naples, Mary Ellen Countryman, and Political and Economic Officer Dana Murray, visited the Istituto Mediterraneo per i Trapianti e Terapie ad Alta Specializzazione (ISMETT). Ms. Countryman and Ms. Murray were escorted by ISMETT Director, Dr. Angelo Luca, and by ISMETT’s American partner UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) executives Ms. Laura Raimondo and Dr. Bruno Gridelli.

“I particularly appreciated the high level of technology and professionalism enforced to guarantee the best possible care to all the patients”, said Consul Countryman.

Ms. Countryman and Ms. Murray had the chance to view the electronic medical record system used at ISMETT, they inquired about the Institute’s research and training programs, and visited the Intensive Care Unit, the Pediatric Unit, and the new, recently inaugurated, premises of the Heart Center.

“The recent opening of the Heart Center is a further evidence of the excellent results that Sicily and the United States are able to accomplish working together on common projects”,  Ms. Countryman continued. “We look forward to a rapid integration between ISMETT and the Ri.MED Foundation. We also hope that the collaboration between UPMC and its public partners will become stronger and expand to achieve increasingly ambitious clinical and research goals. This will certainly bring significant benefits to the citizens of Sicily, of Italy, and of the entire Mediterranean area.”
